Keeping it short today

I am working on my review of Castle for the FANBOLT site this evening, so this is going to be really short. Here's cute cat and something to think about just for you (borrowed from my Facebook feed). Oh, and if you haven't voted, what are you doing here?!?! Get yourself to the polls!!

By the way, I think I need to tell you that you will be seeing a lot more of me this month because I have decided to take the NaBloPoMo challenge to write a blog post everyday for the entire month of November. What was I thinking?!?! Say a prayer for me, will you please?

Finally, I will leave you with a thought that resonates with me on this Election Day:

"Learn to do your own thinking-don't let other people do it for you"

I heard a story about a miracle today....

I heard something today that really touched my heart and I want to share it with you.

My story starts when I stopped to ask a coworker (and friend) how her brother and sister-in-law are doing since their son passed away last week. He was a fairly young man (20's or 30's I believe) who had brain cancer that he had been battling for the last year and 1/2. Every time the doctors would remove the tumors, they would come back more aggressively. Our prayer group had been praying for him for a while, so even though I didn't know him personally I feel a connection to him and his family. We prayed regularly for his healing from this cancer, and in a sense he was healed. It wasn't the physical healing we desired, but a more complete healing of his spirit and a release from the pain and weakness of this life.

** And that is a beautiful thought (one I believe wholeheartedly) but I am not sure that it is as comforting for his parents as it sounds. They miss him. Yes, he is free, but he isn't here. I don't know his parents, and I am not a parent myself, but my heart grieves for them.**

Back to my narrative....

My friend was telling me about this young man's last day and she told me that not long before he passed away he was sitting and talking with his mom. In the middle of their talk he suddenly closed his eyes and his head fell to the side. For a moment his mother thought he was gone, but she could see that he was still breathing. After a short time he opened his eyes and he had this beautiful glow and peace about him. He began to tell his mother about the angels he had seen. At this point his mom knew that his time was close, but she also found that his peace was her peace as well. She told my friend later that she knew that this experience was a gift from God for him and for her and their family. A small glimpse of the perfection of heaven.

So, right now someone somewhere is probably thinking something like "it was just a delusion" or some such thing. To that I say, And??? Does that make it any less miraculous? Not to my mind. My God can work all things together for good to those who love Him. (Romans 8:28) All things. Even brain cancer.

Someone else out there may be saying now, "well sure you can look at it like that if you want". And I say, why wouldn't we want to see it that way? And how many miracles have we overlooked in our lives because we chose not to see them as such? How many times has God sent me a blessing and then watched me walk right past it, so consumed with my own thoughts and worries that I miss the gifts he has laid at my feet?

That's what he did for this family. He gave them a glimpse of His peace, His mercy, and His divine love for their son. He gave them hope for a new and radically different future, one where their son is healed and whole, complete in the presence of our Father, and waiting patiently and joyfully for them to join him at the end of their individual journeys.

That is a miracle, a beautiful miracle. And it touches my heart. I hope it touches yours too.

Sunday thoughts and some pictures

So it's Sunday and I really should be fixing dinner, folding clothes, washing my hair, and about 100 other things. But I don't wanna! I don't wanna be a grown up and prepare for the week to come. Why did I have to grow up? Where was Peter Pan when I needed him?

Okay, I am done whining...I think. But before I go be a responsible(ish) adult I wanted to share some of the thoughts and images that touched my heart this week:

"Don't worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive" ~Howard Thurman

My sweet Pakita, asleep with Eeyore
"God is in the business of extremes, all constant, all faithful, all good, all powerful...all the time!"

flower from my hanging baskets on the porch, so pretty
"Love is cute when it's new.
But love is most beautiful when it lasts."
(love this one because it makes me think of my sweet husband. We met and I fell head over heels at age 11, which means I have loved him for 30 years.)

me and my hubby, he isn't one for pictures.
"It's hard work, being the only tenuous connection someone has to God." ~Cecily Kellogg

One of my favorite views in all the world. The cross at my church.

Okay, that's all for today. I gotta go do grown up stuff. :-(  God bless and good night!

Voice of Truth

Below is a link to a video of a song I just love, "The Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns. It has been running a loop in my head. The chorus says,

"the voice of truth tells me a different story, the voice of truth says do not be afraid.
The voice of truth says this is for my glory.
And I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth."

I will choose to listen and believe......that is a theme with me.

How often do I make the conscious choice to listen to the world? Doctors, friends, family, the news, random people I don't even know. And all of this hides in my heart and creates anxiety and worry. But really, what do they know? Education and intellect will only carry us so far. Faith will carry us the distance. Faith and only faith will give us the strength to face whatever the world can throw at us. For today, at this moment, I will choose to listen to my Father and believe his promises. I hope you will too. :)

It's finally Friday!!

I have said it before, I LOVE my job. I would have to, since I have been there for 16 years. I love the folks I work with and I love the environment I work in. We work hard, but we have fun. It's not life changing stuff, filling prescriptions for prison inmates. Well, it might be in some instances, but for the most part it's pretty routine stuff.

Yes, I love my job. Guess what I love more.......

The Weekend!

TGIF baby!! I am looking forward to being as lazy as I can manage between laundry, carpet cleaning, getting my hair done, going out to my mom's, and church. Geez, that list sounds kinda long! I might have to wear dirty clothes next week. Hmm, I wonder if they would notice? :-)

what Friday looks like!

what Saturday looks like!
And Sunday! Enjoying the presence of God!

I wanted to leave you with one last thought as we head into Friday night:

Grace has a voice. It's yours.
I absolutely love that!

It's Thursday and I am thankful....

Okay, now that I have been doing this blogging thing for a few months I have learned a thing or 2. Well, the "or 2" part may be stretching it a bit. So we will just talk about the 1 thing I have learned.

I don't need two blogs. That's it. When I started this I was having so much fun playing around with the concept I got a little carried away. That's where my "Thursday Thankfulness" blog was born. But now I see the error of my ways. But I love the notion, so Thursday thankfulness isn't being abandoned, just moved. So, every Thursday I will be sharing my thankfulness with you RIGHT HERE. I know you are excited (& if you aren't, fake it. I'm fragile).

And what am I thankful for today, you ask?? Journaling. I have always loved the concept of keeping a record of my thoughts, but frankly I suck at actually keeping a journal. I manage for a day or 2, and then it ends up on a shelf. I was inspired recently to give it another try after I read a blog post by Karen Walrond (click here to read her post in Bliss Your Heart). Karen makes the point that journaling doesn't have to be lofty or deep. It just has to be a reflection of me and my life. Schedules, notes, to-do-lists, anything that moves me. So, I am trying again.

So far, I am really enjoying it, we will have to see if that continues or if it ends up back on the shelf. I'll keep you posted!
Here's a thought on thanksgiving I love:
