Sunday thoughts and pictures

I have a confession to make. I am not a football fan. The Super Bowl (or Stupor Bowl as a friend called it) holds no interest for me. Not even the commercials. I know, I know, this is completely un-American. But football is just plain boring. So, today, while everyone else in America was watching the game (or the pregame, I have no idea what time the fun started) I decided to do a little gardening.

First, you need to know one thing. I am not a gardener. I do not have a green thumb. But I don't let that stop me. The only thing that stops me is my attention deficient disorder (I am not officially ADD, this is a self diagnosis). Basically every spring I buy a few flowering plants, put up some hanging pots and  then spend my afternoons and weekends taking pictures of flowers and playing in the dirt. Until the weather starts to get hot, then I resort to bribing my hubby to water the poor pitiful survivors. When fall comes around I have a burst of energy and buy a few more plants (mums usually) & take a few more pictures. Then we have a cold snap and I give it up. Sometimes the hubby will try to save some of them by putting up a green house or covering the exposed plants with a sheet. I think he can hear them screaming or something. Not me, I can't hear a thing.

Now, it's the 1st Sunday in February and I know that some places are still in the grip of winter. We aren't. The temp today was in the 70's. It was a beautiful day. So, I decided to see who might have survived the winter of neglect on my front porch. And I took pictures so I could share them with all of you!

This leaf caught my eye as I was trying to put some baskets up..

Old iron of my step dad's and a $ store find from last spring

Some of the survivors hanging up and a few more getting some sun under the tree

pink flamingos. A $ store find from 2 years ago. Gotta get them cleaned up and find their legs

This little guy survived better than I thought he would

so did he.

I still have a lot of work to do on my little front porch before I can buy more victims flowers to play with, but I got a good start today, and it felt good. I think it was just what I needed. I hope you had a great day, even if you are watching that boring football game. :)

My prayer for the week ahead...

    1. Oh I bet it was a great day for shopping! It was unnaturally quiet in my neighborhood with everyone except me glued to their TV!

  2. Loved this post, made me laugh..not at your gardening efforts, but your comments...like the flamingo legs. Too cute. You are a great photographer, which I am not. This is a God-given talent...use it...leave the plants alone :D

    1. LOL! Thanks for the compliment! But I can't promise to stay away from the plants, I just can't seem to help myself! :)
