Taking the cat for a walk

Anyone who knows us knows we are cat people. I am often asked how many cats I have and my standard response is "I don't count them", and I don't. It's a little embarrassing to realize the number is fairly high!
Anyway, today I took our baby boy, Player, for his first walk on a harness and leash. He loved it! Wearing a harness is not for every cat, in fact we only have one other who enjoys it. So I wasn't sure how Player would react at first. I was so pleased to see him playing in the grass and watching the world with big excited eyes!

Weigh in Wednesday #5 (Post Thanksgiving addition)

I haven't been blogging much. I didn't even do my Friday Funnies last week and that is the easiest post to create as there is very little thought required! I just haven't been feeling very bloggy for a while now. I sit down at the computer and all my thoughts disappear.

Currently my oldest fur baby, Jonah, is attempting to crawl in my lap. He is 19 years old and is really starting to show his advanced age. He is losing some weight and sleeping a lot more. And wanting to cuddle. He has always loved me best but he has never really been a lap cat. He will sit beside me on the couch but hated to be held. But lately when I sit down he crawls up on my lap and just purrs his heart out. I love it, but I worry. I am not ready to let my baby go!

Anyway! Here are my current numbers:

Weight: 254.8lbs  (last week 254lbs, up 0.8lbs)
Fasting blood sugar: 121 (last week 91)

I actually managed pretty well over the holiday, at least until Sunday. Then I kinda derailed on leftovers and gained 2lbs. All in all I am happy enough with these numbers. I really thought it would be worse!

Me on an average day!
I better run, I have some kitchen cleaning to do and I need to walk a bit before work! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

God Bless!

What do you do?

I was going through some of those 1/2 written posts in my drafts folder this morning and I found this writing prompt:

If you couldn't answer with your job, how would you answer the question "what do you do"?

I think it is from the "Blog Everyday" Challenge. I seem to recall "borrowing" several prompts from there, even though I decided not to actually blog everyday. :)

So, let's see, what do I do? well, I read, I write, I clean out litter boxes and run the vacuum. I sell my mom's (and a few of my own) used books on Amazon. I spend time with my sweet husband, I worry, I pray, I sing in my church praise and worship group (and with my cd's in the car on the way to work).

I scrapbook some and I cross stitch some and I dream about other crafts that I will never get around to trying. I take way too many pictures of my cats. I text A LOT. I collect quotes and pictures. Lot and lots of pictures. I spend a lot of time in cyberspace, reading blogs and looking at pictures, browsing Facebook and Pintrest for inspiration.

I am the admin for my church's Facebook page and for the Prayer Warriors Prayer page (a closed group to protect the privacy of those looking for prayer. If you are interested in joining click here and send a request). I manage a prayer circle at work as well, sending out weekly email updates and holding monthly prayer meetings. I know I have a calling to prayer, though I struggle against it from time to time.

WOW. I do more than I thought. And less than I think I should. Which is fairly typical I suppose. We all have certain expectations for ourselves (even me, and I am world renowned for drifting through life expectation-less). And many of us have the tendency to berate ourselves for not living up to those expectations. But today instead of focusing on all the things I could be, should be doing, I will be grateful and satisfied with who and what I am and the things I have accomplished!

Sunday thoughts and fur babies

I have a confession. We are cat people. And we have too many cats. People ask me from time to time how many we have and I always say "too many", mostly because it is depressing to count them. And because people look at me like I am crazy.

It wasn't always this way. About 6 months before our marriage my hubby brought home this adorable ball of fluff that we named Smokey. A year or 2 later my sweet husband brought home Little Bit and Tigger. And we were a family of 5, 2 humans and 3 felines. Then about a year later he brought home Jonah (are you seeing the pattern?). Five became six and we were officially outnumbered by the felines.

We rocked along with those numbers holding steady for several years until we found an abandoned kitten in our yard during a flash flood. We brought her in and cleaned her up. Her name is Sassy and at this moment she is curled up on the couch next to me, napping with Jonah and Cuddle Bug.

Cuddles is the black and white one, Sassy is the cream one and Jonah is the fuzzy one.

After that we rescued Cricket and Tiny Mite. And things started to get out of control. Years later, Cricket and Tiny are gone (as well as Smokey, Tigger, and Little Bit) and so many more have come and gone. We both have a soft spot for the sick and the injured. We have spent more money on saving (or trying to save) cats that we found in parking lots and fields or that have been dumped near our home.

Tonight we have a pet taxi in our living room with one of our fur babies in it. It's Pakita and I am pretty sure she has "thrown" a blood clot that has damaged her brain. I have seen this before. In fact, her momma (Tiny Mite) passed away from this exact same thing. I pray I am wrong. That it's an infection or some other treatable problem. But I am afraid it's not. She isn't eating or drinking anything, she is just sitting there with this wide eyed vacant look. It breaks my heart.

I have spoken with the vet and am planning to take her in when they open in the morning. Pakita is about 9 years old, that is considered elderly (strange to me since Jonah is 19 and just starting to slow down) so we have decided not to be too aggressive in treatment. We have to be practical, but it is so hard. It feels like giving up. It feels like I am abandoning my baby girl.

Please pray for us. Pray that we make the right decision for Pakita. Pray that she isn't in pain. Thank you.

Friday cat humor

Today I am worried about my cat, Jonah. He is 19 years old and the furry love of my life. See?

Isn't he beautiful?

last night he was throwing up, and it was pink. I will provide no more detail but to say is scared me. This morning he seems fine, but I am worried. Therefore I think we need some cat humor to brighten my your day!

And just for kicks (and I can't resist anything furry and funny at the same time!), here's a panda:

He has issues...don't we all??

That's it folks! Now get out there and make someone smile! It's gonna be a great day!
